Kanawha Valley Friends Of Old Time Music And Dance (FOOTMAD) is a non-profit, volunteer organization whose mission is to promote traditional music and dance in Charleston, West Virginia and the Greater Kanawha Valley. New volunteers are always welcome, the sole prerequisite being a desire to support these most enjoyable art forms.
Our annual Concert Series usually consists of one concert per month, October through March.
Our annual Dance Series runs from October through June. Dances are usually held monthly October-June. Check the website or event page for more info.
The Fall Fling is our annual festival of traditional music and dance. It is held during the latter part of the month of September. The exact dates depend on the availability of the venue.
This contra dance weekend attracts over 100 dancers from around the country and even Canada each year to Fayette County Park in Beckwith, WV. The weekend is anchored by WV’s premiere contra dance band, the Contrarians, and a different top national band brought in each year. Two well known callers in the region, Gaye Fifer and Shawn Brenneman have been doing the honors for several years.
Monthly Celtic jams are held the 1st Sunday of each month Sept-June and Old-time Appalachian jams the 3rd sunday of the month.
Wandering Minstrel Series
These occasional concerts feature traveling musicians or small bands in house concerts or small venues.
